A New Phase of TV Audience Measurement in Armenia: On the Path to Transparency and Trust
In recent years, increasing attention has been paid in Armenia’s media landscape to the system of measuring television ratings. In this context, Margarita Grigoryan, President of the Audiovisual Media Industrial Committee, addressed the key challenges of the field and possible directions for its development in an interview with Media.am.
Why is TV Audience Measurement Important?
TV audience measurement is not just a technical process—it is one of the foundations of the media market. Reliable data allows television companies to understand audience behavior, while advertisers can make informed decisions about their investments.
However, as noted in the interview, for many years this field in Armenia has faced issues such as lack of trust, insufficient transparency in measurement methods, and absence of clear standards.
Collaboration as a Foundation for Solutions
To address these challenges, the Industrial Committee signed a memorandum of cooperation with Inditronics Media Armenia in the summer of 2025.
Within the framework of this partnership, TV audience measurement in Armenia is already being carried out using modern technologies and methodologies aligned with international practices. This is an important step toward restoring trust in the sector and improving data quality.
Transparency and Independence as Priorities
In the interview, Margarita Grigoryan particularly emphasizes the need for an independent and transparent measurement system. Without it, ensuring fair competition in the media market is impossible.
The Audiovisual Media Industrial Committee, as a self-regulatory body, plays an important role in this process by ensuring data accessibility for all market participants and preventing potential manipulations.
Towards International Standards
The development of Armenia’s media market requires alignment with international standards. The introduction of a new system not only enhances the efficiency of the local market but also makes it more attractive to investors.
Conclusion
The reform of the TV audience measurement system in Armenia is at an important turning point. Collaboration, technological advancement, and a commitment to transparency are creating a foundation for a healthier, more competitive, and more trustworthy media environment.
